Presence as a Radical Act of Freedom in a Distracting AI Driven World.
To be present in a world that is striving for your attention is an act of rebellion.
So often we are pushed and pulled in multiple directions, our heads feel like they are going to explode!
We are so disconnected from our bodies and their messages, and even more disconnected from our souls.
With the rise in AI and the “help” that it brings, I have been feeling, seeing and sensing an even deeper need to slow down and disconnect in order to reconnect.
Now don’t get me wrong, I love AI in many ways, and I have certainly utilsied it and it’s magic over the years. But as those years (months, weeks, days) whiz past, it seems to be taking on even more roles, being even more the hot commodity and must have bit of tech and I have found myself starting to get a little uncomfortable.
I can see how it’s instant hit of information, application and support is addictive. How it can exacerbate the already depleting patience levels in anyone, and the rush of seeing a thought, request or image instantly appear in front of you is deeply satisfying.
We could already search for anything we wanted to know, and find the information, with barely any scrolling or “looking for” the answers. Just 3 years ago it used to be a job to trawl the first few google pages of your specific question, and sometimes even require a deep dive to find your ansers…. Now it's instantaneous.
You can have a conversation with AI and it will do all of that for you, and even Google has its own AI at the top of the first page. How are we supposed to resist the knowledge and ease when it's just handed over so easily?
It’s breeding laziness, (in our brains and within our ability to create and express which is such a DEEP human need). It’s breeding impatience. It's activating deeper levels of dopamine addiction and to be honest, it's giving me the ick!
So how is presence an act of rebellion and the ultimate act of freedom?
When you aren't “plugged in”, directly or at all, you get a chance to become YOU. You get a chance to remember and rediscover who you are, what you like, what interests you, what lights you up, and how capable you actually are!
You are free from being a statistic and a number to sell to. You are able to slow down and realise that the urgency you feel, the sense of having to constantly be achieving, doing, thinking, working, outputting…. Is actually exactly what “they” want from you, and as soon as you say - NO! You claim your power back.
Lets all vow to slow down, bring presence and slowness into our daily life. Let's look in a book for an answer or a recipe, let's think for a moment first. Let's stop, and wonder, “do I actually need to know this bit of information right now?”
Presence is inner peace.
Presence is slowing down.
Presence is looking at your loved ones and SEEING them.
Presence is stirring love into your dinner when it's cooking.
Presence is feeling your breath as it flows in and out of your body.
Presence is feeling the sun on your face.
Presence is hearing the crunch of leaves under your feet, or the sound of rain on the window.
Presence is being IN your life.
Slow down. Unplug. Disconnect. Reclaim your mind, body and soul.
Then see how impatient you actually are or how much of a rush life actually is.
Life is what happens while you're looking at other things.
Big love, Jen xx
